No scope of slackness in digital services: Jabbar

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar yesterday said the government has been able to bring public administration closer to people through digital services.

He said over 900 government services among the identified 2,760 digital services have to be offered to the people directly and there is no scope of showing slackness in offering digital services to people.The minister was addressing a function on the occasion of National Public Service Day-2019 as the chief guest at Bangladesh Post Office (BPO) in the city.

Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Ashoke Kumar Biswas chaired the function, also addressed by additional secretaries of the division Shahadat Hossain and Md Azizul Islam and BPO director general S S Bhadra.The minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken different innovative initiatives and activities so the people can avail government’s services easily.

Officials and employees of Posts and Telecommunications Division (PTD) have to be digital, he said mentioning that the PTD is assigned to develop the infrastructures and super highway for the journey of digital Bangladesh.

On the occasion of the Public Service Day, Bangladesh Postal Division had arranged free Nagad customer registration at the event. Posts and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar inaugurated the event as the chief guest.

After the inauguration, Mustafa Jabbar said, “Nagad is now operating throughout the country. The interest of people towards Nagad has grown in a very short span of time; that is very rare. On behalf of the Telecom Division, we are poised to take the Postal Division service Nagad to the center of all the government services and help people through it with utmost importance.”

He also stated, “No other organization has a nationwide network as big as the Postal Division. And none have the capability to deliver products or money to the grass root level as good as the Postal Division. We are digitizing the Postal Division network. And the journey has been started through Nagad.”

“Uddokta” of Nagad at the GPO helped customers to open free accounts with much enthusiasm shown by the customers. Interested personnel can register to a Nagad account for free from Uddokta point spread across the country; providing the national ID is mandatory. Apart from that, the customers can also conduct self-registration through the app with their national ID.
