Tannery rawhide procurement begins

Tannery owners have started rawhide procurement as per the government instruction and it will continue for the next two months.

General Secretary of the Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) Md Sakawat Ullah told, “Tannery owners have begun procurement of rawhide of sacrificial animals for the Eid-ul-Azha. They on Saturday bought rawhide from Sambuganj hat at Mymensingh. It will be continuing for the next two months.”

He said that the rawhide which was well preserved with salt would be bought at a good price. “We have a plan to procure the rawhide from August 20. But, we have started the process form Saturday as per the instruction of the government,” he added.Meanwhile, stakeholders of the tannery industry will meet at Commerce Ministry for discussing on the present situation of rawhide.

Earlier, the government fixed the price of rawhide of sacrificial animals for the Eid-ul-Azha. Per square foot cowhide price for Dhaka was fixed Taka 45-50 while Taka 35-40 for the rest of the country. Besides, the price of male goat hide was fixed Taka 18-20 while female goat Taka 13-15.
