Square Pharma tops weekly turnover

Square Pharmaceuticals dominated the Dhaka Stock Exchange’s transaction chart in the outgoing week while ten most-traded stocks accounted for 22 per cent transactions.

Market analysts said investors were active on Square Pharma’s shares after the news that company was awarded with the good manufacturing practices certificate by the Congo.

The Square Pharma received the certificate, joining a growing list of medicine exporters from Bangladesh looking to make inroads into the African continent.

According to the DSE data, some 3.19 million shares of Square Pharma were traded, generating a turnover of more than Tk 531 million, which was 4.22 per cent of the week’s total turnover of Tk 12.58 billion.

The company’s share closed at Tk 170.70 on Thursday, losing 5.23 per cent over the previous week.

The company disbursed 42 per cent cash and 7.0 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2019.

The company’s paid-up capital is Tk 8.44 billion and authorised capital is Tk 10 billion while total number of securities is 844.23 million.

The sponsor-director own 34.57 per cent stake in the company, while the institutional investors own 10.30 per cent, foreign investors 19.48 per cent and the general public 35.65 per cent as on February 29, 2020, the DSE data showed.

Monno Ceramic came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth nearly Tk 493 million changing hands. The company’s share rose 7.27 per cent to close at Tk 131.40 each on Thursday.

Grameenphone clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 368 million changing hands. The company’s share closed at Tk 235.50, losing 5.04 per cent.

Orion Pharma emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 291 million changing hands. The company’s share fell 5.79 per cent to close at Tk 42.30 each.

LafargeHolcim notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 231 million changing hands. The company’s share closed at Tk 36.50, shedding 2.93 per cent.

The turnover of BATBC was Tk 220 million. The company’s share price slumped 7.13 per cent to close at Tk 893.60 each.

Brac Bank featured a turnover of Tk 211 million. The bank’s share closed at Tk 31.40 each, losing 8.19 per cent.

The turnover of Orion Infusion was Tk 165 million. The company’s share slumped 5.22 per cent to close at Tk 74.50 each.

Beximco featured a turnover of Tk 160 million. The company’s share closed at Tk 12.90, losing 6.52 per cent over the week before.

Sea Pearl Beach also made its way to the day’s top turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 158 million changing hands. The company’s share price fell 1.0 per cent to close at Tk 79.40 each on Thursday.
