Grameenphone posts Tk 36.2bn revenue in Q1

Grameenphone reported a total revenue of Taka 36.2 billion in first quarter (Q1) of 2020, registering a 3.7 percent growth compared to the same period of last year.

The leading mobile phone operator also finished Q1 with a 75.3 million customer base, of which 53.6 percent or 40.4 million use internet.

During Q1, Grameenphone also posted a 24.6 percent growth in data revenue on Year-on-Year (YoY) basis.

“Despite a few regulatory challenges, our focus remained on market execution and maintaining our network leadership position, as our reinforced drive on 4G conversion led to 14.2 million 4G users at the end of Q1,” said Yasir Azman, CEO of Grameenphone, in a media statement releasing the business update.

Net profit after taxes (NPAT) for Q1 was Taka 10.7 billion, with 29.6 percent margin.

Besides, earnings per share (EPS) for the period stood at Taka 7.92.

Grameenphone reported a reduced growth momentum in the Q1, said the operators’ CFO Jens Becker.

“We experienced strong growth in data revenue despite challenges in our planned network rollout. As a connectivity partner to the Digital Bangladesh journey, we will continue investing in the country and building a strong network and distribution ecosystem in order to deliver value to our shareholders and our customers,” he added.

In Q1, Grameenphone invested Taka 0.4 billion for network coverage, and added 197 new 4G sites to their network that took the tally of sites at 16,542.
