Bangladesh Bank issues a circular suspending the interest on all types of loans for April and May

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the government has decided that two months will be declared as zero interest months for the borrowers.

The premier made the statement while addressing a videoconference with public representatives and officials of eight districts in Rangpur division on the present Covid-19 situation in the country on Monday morning.

The videoconference was aired live on state and private television channels from the prime minister’s official residence Ganabhaban in Dhaka.

Sheikh Hasina said: “We have taken the decision as coronavirus hampered our production in this two months. All types of borrower industrialists will get this facility.

“After this video conference, I will attend another meeting regarding the issue when more details over the decision will come,” she added.

On Sunday, the Bangladesh Bank issued a circular suspending the interest on all types of loans for the months of April and May to help borrowers overcome the economic hit of Covid-19.
