Robi slashes data price by 60pc for selected packages

Mobile operator Robi has reduced data price by 60 per cent considering the crisis situation due to coronavirus outbreak.

Robi’s Managing Director and CEO Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said despite having revenue shortfall of around Tk 40 million per day (16 per cent reduction on daily revenue), Robi decided to reduce data price by 60 per cent in selected packs.

The voice call price was also revised downwards considerably, he said on Monday, reports UNB citing a press release.

“Robi is determined and committed to shoulder the burden of this crisis, standing beside the people of the country till the very end of the pandemic,” he said.

Meanwhile, Robi has chalked out a detail plan to support the stakeholders in the company’s sales and distribution channels with food supply, credit facilities and even health insurance.

Mahtab warned that if the regulator does not take steps to discipline the market leaders, they would continue to exploit the COVID-19 crisis for their business interests.

He announced that Robi will provide food to 10,000 families in remote parts of the country with support from Senakalyan Sangstha.

It will also set up disinfection booths in the crowded public places in Dhaka and Chattogram.
