Coronavirus: PriyoShop works round the clock

With the Covid-19 pandemic going on, the government has called general holiday, urging people to stay at home. In these trying times, the country’s e-commerce platform PriyoShop is performing

its share of duties towards society. Through PriyoShop.com, customers can order necessary items from the comfort of their home using PriyoShop deliveries. But during this coronavirus epidemic, what are the special steps PriyoShop is taking to serve the people? To answer this question, Dhaka Tribune sat down with its founder and CEO, Asikul Alam Khan

What are the services PriyoShop is offering in this pandemic?

PriyoShop is focusing on proper deliveries so that people do not have to go out into the streets. Customer feedback is also being taken into account more and more, adding different products and brands into our catalogue everyday – while not compromising on quality.

The price of a product is a very important factor. PriyoShop’s top priority will always be making sure customers are being able to purchase goods at the right price.

How is PriyoShop ensuring safety of the workers who come in contact with the customers?

Besides the customers, we are putting a lot of focus on the safety of our team. Packaging and deliveries are also receiving special care, so that the proper amount of safety can be reached.

The delivery team is always equipped with gloves, masks and PPE when making deliveries. It is double-checked that they are using safety kits. Besides, regular health checkups are also being observed.

Regarding cash handling, what are the steps PriyoShop taking?

PriyoShop.com also provides the luxury of providing multiple payment options for users. Customers can pay for their orders through Bkash, Visa, Mastercard, Amex card, Nexus Pay and bank deposit. PriyoShop is also partnering up with multiple banks and offering discounts and cashback campaigns.

Are you facing mobility problems or supply chain issues? And any other problems regarding delivery?

When the general holiday was initially announced, our first thought was to postpone services for a while. However, we soon realized that is our duty to deliver necessary products and grocery items to the general people. With that thought, we started slowly offering our services against the odds – starting delivery services for groceries. It took some time to gather velocity, with transportation options being limited and vendors not accepting order placements. The supply chain faced the most issues. But from the start of May, we have been able to hurdle all obstacles and are providing products and goods in full scale.

What product is being demanded the most right now?

Customers are mostly purchasing the items which are most essential for day-to-day life – rice, lentil, soap, biscuits, alongside other products for health and safety. With that, clothing is also getting a lot of orders as Eid is right around the corner.

Ramadan has started, and Eid is coming up. What is PriyoShop’s plans?

For the celebration of Eid, fashion items like punjabis, other outfits and cosmetics are being offered with up to 48% discount. A lot of emphasis is being put on online transactions because cash is not suitable in this situation. In light of that, we are teaming up with different banks to offer up to 12% cashback.

Can you shed some light on PriyoShop’s origins?

PriyoShop.com is one of the country’s leading e-commerce platform with a catalogue of more than one thousand brands and more than 100,000 products. In research conducted by the United Nations (UN), PriyoShop has been named as a role model in e-commerce, as seen in UNCTAD Bangladesh’s assessment report. Moreover, the company has also received awards including being named in Asia’s Top 10 startups in Singapore in 2020, the National ICT award in 2019, Super Startup award in India in 2018, alongside many other accolades.
