Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Monday said iodized salt is very important in building a healthy and talented generation. “The ‘Iodized Salt Act, 2021’ has been enacted with the necessary amendments to abolish the existing ‘Prevention of Iodine Deficiency Diseases Act, 1979’. The act has been enacted for the overall management of the country’s salt sector by ensuring the use of iodine in edible salt and the use of iodized salt in human and other animal feed,” he said.
The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop on the ‘Iodized Salt Act, 2021’ at a hotel in the city, said a press release. State Minster for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder attended the workshop as the special guest while Industries Secretary Zakia Sultana presided over it.
Humayun said the ‘Iodized Salt Act, 2021’ is a very important and timely law and a national salt committee will be formed under this act. He said the committee will make recommendations on salt cultivation, processing storage and sale. The committee will also recommend on iodine supply and management policy for salt factories, he added.
