12 projects to galvanise Bangladesh’s tourism sector

The government has been implementing various programmes including 12 development projects through Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) to help promote the country’s tourism sector.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali said this on Saturday.

“The BPC has undertaken 12 projects worth Tk 3.35 billion, which are now being implemented,” also said the state minister.

He mentioned the BPC has already implemented 20 development projects worth Tk 2.84 billion in the last 12 years.

“Many changes have taken place at the BPC with the time for its operations and service delivery,” added Mr Mahbub Ali.

He disclosed the figures while he was addressing a ceremony as the chief guest of a celebration programme titled ‘Poth Cholar 50’ (50 years of operations).

The BPC, which enters into the 50 years of its operations, organised the discussion programme along with a logo unveiling session to celebrate the milestone at its office in the city’s Agargaon area, a statement said.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism (MoCAT) RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury attended the programme as the guest of honour.

MoCAT Secretary Md Mokammel Hossain and Chief Executive Officer of Bangladesh Tourism Board Jabed Ahmed were present as the special guests.

Speaking on the occasion, the state minister said the BPC has made significant contributions to improve the local tourist attractions including Cox’s Bazar, the main tourist destination of the country.

The corporation runs the National Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (NHTTI) to impart hands-on training to those involved in the tourism industry, the state minister said, adding that the centre is creating about 1,600 skilled human resources every year.

“Since its beginning, the organisation has created over 60,000 skilled human resources, who have been working at home and abroad with reputation,” informed Mahbub Ali.

A rally was held to celebrate the occasion.

The statement also said the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman founded the BPC in 1972.
