The RMG Sustainability Council (RSC) will now handle all workplace-related complaints in the readymade garment (RMG) sector.
The organization has been handling only occupational safety and health (OSH) issues so far, but this time its complaint resolution process is being expanded.
A notification signed by the organization’s managing director Abdul Haque said that the RSC’s board of directors approved the decision on October 20.
This new Comprehensive Complaints Mechanism (CCM) will come into effect from November 16.
This initiative will create a unified and transparent platform with the participation of three parties in the RMG sector – owners, workers and brands – where various workplace problems can be resolved quickly and fairly.
In addition to occupational safety, the new system will now address—
Unfair dismissal or contract-related complaints
Wages, allowances and leave issues
Freedom of association and collective bargaining rights
Complaints of child labour, forced labour and discrimination
Two-phase implementation
The RSC said the new system will be implemented in phases.
In the first phase, 58 brands and 1,185 factories will come under the system from November 16.
After six months, all the remaining brands and factories will be included in the second phase.
The RSC said the active participation of partner factories is the key to the success of this initiative.
The organization will provide necessary support and guidance to factories during the transition period.
RSC managing director Abdul Haque said: “This is a major step towards ensuring fairness, safety and transparency in the workplace. We all want to work together to make grievance redress easier and more credible.”
