On Fridays and Saturdays, shoppers gathered in the markets of the port city, with crowds also appearing after iftar time on other days.

According to traders, these shopping centres have remained busy from 10.00 am until midnight for the past couple of days, with the trend expected to continue until the third week of April when the Eid celebration takes place.

Shopping malls have decorated the markets to attract thousands of customers looking to purchase their special attire. Additionally, a large number of makeshift shops and fashion houses in almost every locality in the city have opened up and are attracting large crowds.

The demand for sarees and three-piece suits for women, which are well-designed and stylish, is particularly high and is drawing in a significant number of buyers.

Customers and traders in Chattogram have reported a price increase in all types of clothing and apparel compared to last year.

Despite this, popular shopping destinations for middle-class women, such as Central Plaza, Mimi Super Market, Ocean City, New Market, Lucky Plaza, and Teri Bazar, remain crowded with eager shoppers ahead of Eid.

According to traders at Mimi Super and Chattogram Shopping Complex, Salwar Kamij is priced between Tk 2,000 to Tk 20,000 per piece, while sarees range from Tk 2,000 to Tk 1 lakh. Three-piece suits are priced between Tk 2,000 to Tk 20,000, and lehengas are between Tk 3,000 to TK 25,000.

With Eid-ul-Fitr just around the corner, normal prices have been reported by traders such as Shimul Ahamed, who added that the making cost of women’s dresses has not increased this year.

Despite this, traders are attempting to sell more with less profit this year due to a business slump during the pandemic.

In the city, over 200 large, medium, and small shopping centres are offering numerous Eid fashions for men women and children, including Arong, Khwaja, I Fashion, Boro Shaheb, Khaki, and Paristan.

Panjabi is available at different shopping malls and is priced between Tk 2,000 to over Tk 15,000 per piece.
