Stocks witnessed another downtrend session, extending the losing spell for second consecutive sessions in a row on Monday (July 8) as risk-averse investors booked profits on sector specific stocks.
At the close of day’s trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) went down by 14.47 points or 0.27 percent to reach 5,318.61 points.
The DSE Shariah Index saw loss of 5.22 points or 0.42 percent to close at 1216.23.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also shed over 4.22 points or 0.22 percent to finish at 1886.16.
Of the issues traded, 116 gained, 198 declined and 39 remained unchanged.
“The market displayed zig-zag movement throughout the day’s session as investors might have hesitated to take fresh stake in the market and undertook a ‘wait-and-see’ strategy ahead of dividend declarations of the corporations.,” said EBL securities in its daily market analysis.
Shares worth Tk 4,246.60 million changed hands at the DSE on the second trading session of this week.
National Life Insurance Company Limited topped the turnover leaders with 7.01 lakh shares worth Tk 188.65 million traded.
Pragati Life Insurance Company Ltd dominated the gainers chart, posting a gain of 13.47 per cent gain while ICB Employees Provident MF 1: Scheme 1 was the day’s worst loser, losing 9.85 per cent.
The CSE overall share index, CASPI also declined 42.48 points or 0.26 percent to reach 16290.53 points at the close today.
Of the 263 issues traded, 75 advanced, 156 suffered loss and 32 remained unchanged.
The value of the traded issues was Tk 145.63 million.
