Crisis Management Core Committee for the garment sector has decided to take necessary measures to pay the salaries and allowances of all workers before the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
At the same time, the ministry will constitute a joint monitoring cell with the Department of Inspection of Factories and Establishments (DIFE) and department of labor to monitor the ongoing situation in the industrial area.
The decision was taken at the 43rd meeting of the Core Committee on Crisis Management, to review the overall situation of the industry and to keep the situation normal before Eid ul Azha at the meeting room of the Ministry of Labor and Employment at the Secretariat on Monday (July 8).
With State Minister for Labor and Employment Munnujan Sufian in the chair, the meeting was also attended by BGMEA Director Munsur Khaled, BTMA Director Jamal Uddin, Director General of Industrial Police Abdus Salam, Jatiya Sramik League President Shukur Mahmud.
After the meeting, Acting Secretary of Labor and Employment Ministry KM Ali Azam said that the meeting has ended with fruitful discussions. Owners of industrial factories have been asked to pay salary, allowances before the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. They agreed. We hope stakeholders will work with sincerity as like previous time.
He said the owners of garment and industrial companies, including BGMEA, BKMEA and BTMA leaders, agreed in the meeting. They said in the meeting that the workers’ pay-bonuses and arrears (those who have) will be paid before the Eid holidays.
The Director General of the Industrial Police has been instructed to keep a watch on the law and order situation in the industrial areas, he added.
Inspector General of Fisheries and Institution Directorate, Director General of Labor Department, representatives of the intelligence agencies and other officials concerned were present in the meeting.
