The Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) on Tuesday approved 10 projects including two ongoing and eight new projects involving a total cost of Tk11,467.23 crore.
The government will finance Tk8,271.23 crore while Tk2,928.79 crore will come as foreign assistance along with Tk267.11 crore as grant, said Planning Minister MA Mannan at the briefing after the Ecnec meeting.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting held at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city.
In its meeting, the Ecnec approved extension proposals for ongoing Skills for Employment Investment Programme (SEMP) with increased cost and construction for four marine academies in Pabna, Barisal, Sylhet and Rangpur cities without any increase in cost.
The SEMP project cost is Tk3,712.33 crore while that of setting up the marine academies is Tk521.46 crore.
Ecnec approved eight new projects — improvement of Pakundia-Mirzapur-Tuk Sarak in Kishoreganj with the cost Tk729.79 crore, construction of three bridges on Dhaka-Aricha highway involving Tk388.91 crore, safety infrastructure development project for Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) Tk1,710.63 crore, population and housing census 2021 Tk1,761.79 crore, expansion of irrigation through optimum utilization of surface and rain water in greater Rangpur Tk250.57 crore, Rural Employment and Roads Maintenance project Tk1,723.15 crore, construction of Padma river’s bank at Noriya upazila in Shariatpur district Tk557.24 crore and establishing deep tube well and water purification plant inside Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City at Mirsharai in Chattagram Tk632.82 crore.
Finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Planning Minister MA Mannan, Roads and Bridge Division Minister Obaidul Quader, Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam, Health Minister Zahid Malik, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Affairs Minister Md Shahabuddin and Science and Technology Affairs Minister Yeafesh Osman attended the meeting.
