With the import of 2773 tons of onion
through Teknaf land port of Cox’sbazar in the last three days the total
volume of the delivery of onion from neighbouring country Myanmar now stands
at 17953 tons in last 25 days of the current month.
Of the import, a total of 1103 tons have been delivered at the land port
alone on Monday and were reached different parts of the country to cope with
the acute scarcity of the spicy ingredients and more nine ships are awaiting
unloading onions at the land port , Manager of the port Mohammad Jashimnuddin
Chowdhury told BSS.
” We are attaching highest importance for quick delivery and transportation
of the imported onions to and from the land port” he said
Mohammad Abseruddin , Customs official of the land port said the
businessmen now incline to import more onion in the wake of huge demand of
the cooking component that resulted in declining import of other goods in the
port.
Director General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate Dr
Mohammad Sahidul Islam said the directorate has been leaving no stone
unturned to find out the illegal hoarders and the persons behind the abnormal
price hike of the onion .
