TCB’s OMS benefitting 25m families: MoC

A total of 25 million (2.50 crore) families are being benefitted from the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh’s (TCB) open market sale (OMS) programme, according to the Ministry of Commerce (MoC).

TCB launched sales of key essential items at subsidised rates under the OMS programme from April 01 to keep their prices within the buying capacity of common people, said a press release on Monday.

The state-owned agency is selling essential commodities, including sugar, edible oil, gram, lentils, dates and onion, from trucks and through dealers in different parts of the country.

The OMS programme will continue across the country until May 20, except on Fridays, the press release mentioned.

The MoC has recently formed eight teams for monitoring sales activities in two Dhaka city corporations.

Besides, a total of 90 teams are regularly monitoring market situation across the country.

According to the release, there is sufficient stock of various essential items in the country at present, and market monitoring activities have been strengthened.

The government will take austere actions against the dealers/traders, who will be found involved in creating any artificial crisis of the essentials, it added.
