The Bangladesh Standards and Testing
Institution (BSTI) has accelerated its activities to keep imports normal
during the coronavirus crisis.
“Different activities, including collecting samples and submitting them,
issuing clearances and test reports and accepting applications for new
certificates, are being continued. Particularly, BSTI is issuing clearance
for imported goods faster than earlier,” as per an Industries Ministry press
release issued today.
BSTI is issuing clearances in favor of imported compulsory goods within
short time to keep imports normal and reduce container clutter at the port,
the release added.
In order to keep the imports normal, BSTI offices, located in the port
areas, carry out all the formalities, including collection of samples of the
products applied for clearance at the port every day of the week except
Friday.
From last Sunday to Thursday, 141 samples were submitted to BSTI. Twenty
six clearances have been issued. Of these, 59 samples have been submitted to
the Chittagong office alone and 18 clearances have been issued from that
office during this period.
