Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Tuesday extended banking hour by one and a half hour to 2:30pm to facilitate transactions by diverse groups including the businesses.
The new timing will be effective from May 10, a circular issued by the central bank says.
“Banks will remain open from 10am to 3:30pm while the transaction will be made between 10am and 2:30pm,” said the circular issued on the day.
However, there will be a 15-minute break for Zohr prayers – from 1:15pm to 1:30 pm.
The new banking time will continue until further notice, the circular adds.
Besides, the central bank instructed all banks to keep open at least one branch of their bank in each district or an important place of district.
The Bangladesh Bank notice also asked banks to keep open foreign currency branches in metropolitan and divisional cities.
It directed banks to maintain the safety and hygiene related guidelines of the World Health Organization during their office hours to defeat coronavirus.
