Experts at a virtual seminar called for
formulating a policy to promote local entrepreneurs in power and
energy sectors.
“Unless own resources and manpower can be used in mega projects, the
shortage of skilled people in operation and maintenance will persist,”
BUET Professor M Tamim told the virtual seminar.
Energy and Power Magazine arranged the seminar titled “Challenges
and Possibility of Utilizing Resources in Infrastructure Development.
Energy and Power Magazine Editor Molla Amzad moderated the seminar.
M Tamim said local entrepreneurs should be given protection side by
side with the international contractors. Otherwise, they (local
contractors) will not be able to compete in the sector by giving 35
percent duty.
He said skilled manpower will increase if joint venture initiatives
can be done in appointing foreign contractors in development works of
the sector.
Among others, power division additional secretary Sheikh Faizul
Amin, chairman of Max Group Engineer Ghulam Mohammad Alamgir, chairman
of Energypack Power Generation Company Engineer Rabiul Alam and Dipan
Group Director GSM Shamsuzzoha Nasim spoke on the occasion.
