Country’s economy is in good shape; Kamal

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today said that the economy of Bangladesh is in good shape and also heading towards the right direction despite the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is taking a toll on the global economy.

“I think that our economy is in good condition. There is nothing to be worried and getting nervous………we’re in much better condition. We’re in such a good condition which is beyond our thoughts. I believe such trend would continue,” he said.

The Finance Minister was replying to questions during his virtual briefing after the 36th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) in this year which was also held today virtually.

Mentioning that the government is not at all worried and pessimistic about the overall economic performances, the Finance Minister said even there is no such growth in the global economic indicators.

“But, there is growth in Bangladesh in all economic components by the grace of Almighty Allah,” he said.

When asked about the revenue collection scenario over the last five months (July-November) period of the current fiscal year (FY21), Kamal said the government witnessed a growth of 3.19 percent in overall revenue collection during this five-month period.

“Our plan is that we’ll start reviewing our budget for the current fiscal year and we’ll make necessary recast where it will be deemed necessary.” he added.

According to the official data of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the overall revenue collection totaled Taka 87,092.71 crore during this five-month period against the target of Taka 1,12,959.83 crore.
