After witnessing a downward trend in the
last session, stocks today rebounded in the Dhaka and Chittagong stock
exchanges as investors remained active on sector-wise issues.
DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 16.73
points or 0.31 per cent to settle at 5,343.95. Two other indices also edged
higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 1.28 points to finish
at 2,022.19 and the DSE Shariah Index gained 0.76 points to close at
1,218.45.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Taka 3825.489
million, which was Taka 4,882.35 million at the previous session of the week.
Gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 351 issues traded, 134
ended higher, 85 closed lower and 132 issues remained unchanged on the DSE
trading floor.
Beximco continued to dominate the turnover chart, followed by Beximco
Pharma, Premier Bank, Robi and Lanka Bangla Finance.
Nitol Insurance was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.02 per
cent while ACFL was the worst loser, losing 9.31 per cent.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange also ended higher with its All Shares Price
Index (CASPI)-gaining 53.96 points to close at 15,478.49 while the Selective
Categories Index – CSCX rising 33.95 points to close at 9,338.93.
Of the issues traded, 88 advanced, 62 declined and 62 remained unchanged on
the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 65.60 lakh shares and mutual fund units with a
turnover value of Taka 28.24 crore.
