Cumilla incident aims at creating chaos: Home Minister

Home affairs minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Sunday said that the Cumilla incident that incited attacks on Hindu idols and Puja mandaps there and other places was aimed at creating chaos across Bangladesh.

He said that two to three suspects were already arrested and efforts were on to identify and arrest the culprits soon.

Tensions erupted in different parts of Bangladesh following a report of finding a copy of the Quran on the thigh of a god idol at a Durga Puja mandap in Cumilla on Wednesday.

The government is yet to identify the perpetrators of placing the Quran at a Durja Puja mandap in Cumilla on Wednesday which instigated large-scale protests by Islamists, vandalism of puja mandaps and clashes in which six people were killed.
