Centre for Policy Dialogue distinguished fellow Debapriya Bhattacharya on Thursday said that the government would face challenges in payment of growing external debt from 2024.
The country’s external debt repayment would be around 2 per cent of the gross domestic product from 2024 following maturity of many projects, he said.
At present, the amount is 1 per cent of the GDP, he added while presenting a report on ‘Top Twenty Mega Projects in Bangladesh Trends and Status’ in a webinar.
Debapriya Bhattacharya suggested three measures including rescheduling of loans with the loan providing countries for keeping the country’s good record of debt amortization.
