Ten most-traded firms accounted for 41 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) last week, with Orion Pharma leading the chart for a second straight week.
For the past few weeks, some selective stocks have ruled the DSE turnover list, which market analysts termed an ‘irrational hype’ among investors.
According to the DSE data, some 47.50 million Orion Pharma shares were traded during the week, generating a turnover of Tk 6.61 billion, which was 9.05 per cent of the week’s total turnover.
The week’s total turnover dropped sharply to Tk 73.06 billion on the premier bourse, which was 28 per cent lower than the previous week’s Tk 101 billion.
Orion Pharma’s share price fell 7.29 per cent to close at Tk 138.70 each on Thursday, after soaring 28.74 per cent in the week before.
However, the drug maker’s share soared 91 per cent or Tk 71.20 each in a month until September 22 despite no undisclosed price sensitive information.
The company’s nine months’ consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 3.07 for July 2021-March 2022 as against Tk 2.98 for July 2020-March 2021.
Orion Pharma, listed on the Dhaka bourse in 2013, disbursed 12 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2021. In 2020, it provided a 10 per cent cash dividend.
Beximco came second on the weekly turnover list, with shares worth Tk 5.91 billion changing hands during the week. The company’s share price also dropped 0.97 per cent to close at Tk 133.20 on Thursday.
Eastern Housing clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 2.84 billion changing hands. The company’s share jumped 25.24 per cent to close at Tk 116.60 on Thursday.
Bangladesh Shipping Corporation emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 2.60 billion changing hands. The state-run corporation’s share closed at Tk 162.40 on Thursday, shedding 3.85 per cent over the previous week.
JMI Hospital Requisite Manufacturing notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 2.56 billion changing hands. The company’s share price advanced 1.83 per cent to close at Tk 133.90 on Thursday.
Turnover of Unique Hotel & Resorts was Tk 2.26 billion. The company’s share closed at Tk 74.90 on Thursday, gaining 0.67 per cent over the previous week.
BDCOM Online featured a turnover of Tk 2.08 billion. The company’s share price surged 10.65 per cent to close at Tk 61.30 on Thursday.
The turnover of Shinepukur Ceramics was Tk 1.96 billion. The company’s share closed at Tk 55.70 on Thursday, rising 10.08 per cent over the week before.
Bangladesh Building Systems featured a turnover of Tk 1.54 billion. The company’s share soared 17.56 per cent to close at Tk 30.40 on Thursday.
Saif Powertec also made its way to the week’s top turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 1.38 billion changing hands.
The company’s share price rose 3.35 per cent to close at Tk 33.90 on Thursday.
