Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim on Thursday said the government is putting its best efforts to help the farmers of the haor areas so that they could harvest their Boro crops timely.
“The government at the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly to assist Boro cultivators of the down-stream areas of the country, including Sunamganj and Netrakona, so that they can harvest their Boro paddy with smiling faces,” he said.
The deputy minister said these while exchanging views with government officers, public representatives, political leaders, civil society members and journalists at the conference room of the Netrakona DC office.
Chaired by acting deputy commissioner of Netrakona district Ahmed Sumon, the view-exchanging meeting was addressed, among others, by Asim Kumar Ukil MP, additional secretary of water resources ministry Mollik Sayed Mahmud, superintendent engineer of water development board Mahfujur Rahman, police super of Netrakona Foyaz Ahmed, panel mayor of Netrakona municipality SM Mahsin Alam, general secretary of Netrakona district Awami League Advocate Shamsur Rahman Liton and general secretary of Netrakona press club Muklesur Rahman Khan.
Highlighting different pragmatic measures undertaken by the government to help the farmers of the haor areas, the deputy minister informed that, 67 per cent construction works of 216.74 kilometre-long haor protection embankment have been completed, and the rest of the construction works of the haor protection embankment would be completed within March 7 next.
In this context, the deputy minister sounded a note of warning saying that none would be spared if anybody is found involved in corruption in the construction works of the haor protection embankment. Earlier, the deputy minister Shamim addressed a view-exchanging meeting with Awami League workers and leaders on Duoz union parishad premises at Atpara upazila.
