State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said Bangladesh-India Friendship Pipeline will contribute effectively to energy security.
“It will be a milestone in providing fuel to the northern region of the country quickly, uninterruptedly and in a cost-effective manner,” he said while inspecting the progress of the pipeline project at Parbatipur here.
Nasrul Hamid said one of the main conditions for development is uninterrupted power and energy supply in the country which is being ensured successfully by the Awami League government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The foundation-stone of Bangladesh-India Friendship Pipeline was laid in 2018 for uninterrupted, fast and cost-effective fuel supply to 16 districts of the northern part of the country, he said.
The state minister thanked everyone involved in the project as the project was completed before the scheduled time.
According to the project details, the construction period of 126.57 km pipeline was fixed to complete in June 2023 at a cost of Tk 306 crore.
It said extending from India’s Numaligarh to Bangladesh’s Parbatipur depot, the pipeline will add an additional 29,000 metric tons of fuel storage capacity in the northern region per day.
It will be possible to easily supply fuel to power plants along with 16 districts of the northern region at a low cost and quickly due to the newly installed pipeline.
Energy division secretary Dr Md Khaeruzzaman, BPC Chairman ABM Azad and Petrobangla Chairman Janendranath Sarkar were present, among others.
