Operation of the Bangladesh Electronic Funds Transfer Network, the country’s first paperless electronic inter-bank funds transfer system, is yet to be restored after five days of suffering a technical glitch due to connectivity disruption.
Operations of the Bangladesh Automated Cheque Processing Systems, an inter-bank cheque clearing system, however, resumed on Sunday after it was suspended on April 13 when connectivity snapped due to the fibre cut.
Bangladesh Bank executive director for ICT infrastructure maintenance and management department Muhammad Zakir Hasan told New Age on Sunday that the BB had restored the inter-bank cheque clearing system partially.
However, the BEFTN is yet to be restored, Zakir said, adding that the central bank has engaged all required parties to restore the system.
Officials of the BB’s departments concerned are not yet clear about when the system would be up and running.
An official said that the BEFTN service was vital for disbursement of social safety allowances among people.
Not only the BB’s BACPS and BEFTN, but its web site also went offline following the fibre cut on April 13.
