BENAPOLE: Benapole Customs House has opened a new software called ‘Becom’ aimed at making import-export trade dynamic, preventing revenue evasion and restoring transparency in taxes.
This is the first time after 50 years of the country’s independence that Benapole Customs House has been upgraded to the only digital custom house across the country.
Dr Neyamul Islam, additional commissioner of Benapole Customs House, said operation of the software was inaugurated at the zoom meeting of the chairman of the National Board of Revenue on Tuesday afternoon.
Customs, ports and BGB authorities jointly enlist the cargo loaded trucks at customs cargo branch of Zero point to collect information on import-export trucks and goods.
As a result, it took 30 minutes for a truck to enter the port last fifty years.
Currently, it takes only two minutes to use the barcode through the Becom software.
Every day 500 to 600 truckloads of goods are imported from India through Benapole port.
The location of these Indian trucks and the sheds of the port in which the goods are being unloaded can be known at a moment through Becom.
Risk analysis of the products from importers and C&F agents is possible to detect quickly.
The exact location of the import-export truck is known whether it is in the port area. At the moment, it is known that any officer can know all the information of arrears of revenue, bank guarantee, undertaking and C&F agent license at the same time.
It is suitable for use on mobile phones and it is locally made and low-cost software. The software cannot be hacked in any way.
Benapole customs Commissioner Azizur Rahman said with the single effort of Dr Neyamul Islam it has been possible to make Becom software in the first customs house in Bangladesh.
At present, import and export trade can be made dynamic through the 15 modules of the software. It also can monitor the passport passengers traveling.
The National Board of Revenue, Benapole customs commissioner and additional commissioners are overseeing the overall management of customs, port, including the seizure of smuggled goods. It can also identify the location of confiscated goods stored in port warehouses.
It is possible to detect hazardous chemical products quickly.
The NBR chairman praised Benapole customs officials for inaugurating the new software in the country. Such software will be installed in every customs house in the country very soon, he said.
Benapole C&F Agents Association President Mofizur Rahman Sajan said due to the newly introduced Becom software, it will be possible to prevent tax evasion largely. On the other hand, import and export trade will be dynamic and transparent.
