Md Habibur Rahman, new chief economist of Bangladesh Bank

The Bangladesh Bank yesterday appointed Md Habibur Rahman as its new chief economist.

He is the first Bangladesh Bank official who has been appointed as the chief economist of the central bank.

Rahman is the fifth chief economist of the central bank and Mustafa Kamal Mujeri was the first one.

The board of directors of the banking regulator took the decision of the new appointment in a meeting held on January 20.

The central bank, however, issued an officer order to this end yesterday.

Rahman is scheduled to hold the post until March 2025 when he will retire.
