Planning minister for digital monitoring of development project

He also urged the project directors to be careful in spending people’s money and underscored the need for implementing projects within a short time

Planning Minister MA Mannan on Sunday urged project directors to reduce expenditure of development projects.

He was speaking at a workshop at the National Executive Council (NEC) conference room in the capital, organized by the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) of the planning ministry.

He also urged the project directors to be careful in spending people’s money and underscored the need for implementing projects within a short time through project management information system software (PMIS).

PMIS software is designed by the IMED to digitalize the monitoring system within a short time.

He also directed them not to waste public fund, saying, “You must be very careful about public money, especially in case of development projects.”

He said a large amount of the national budget was earmarked every year to implement the Annual Development Programme to ensure better lives of the citizens of the country.

Mannan also said that the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) would be further strengthened as its divisional level offices would be set up very soon to widen its coverage.

“Our prime minister has signaled on various occasions that the IMED would be further strengthened. We will set up divisional level IMED offices very shortly. As long as I remain here at the Planning Ministry, I will try to extend the IMED offices at the district level,” he added.

In the workshop, IMED Acting Secretary Abul Mansur Mohammad said only 562 PMIS projects were added in the program. A total of 1976 project officers including 760 project directors were trained, he added.

IMED Acting Secretary Abul Mansur Mohammad Foyez Ullah presided over the workshop.
