As a result the government included the SDG projects in the annual development program for implementing those using own resources Planning Minister MA Mannan on Tuesday said the government received no cooperation of the United Nations (UN) and development partners in financing SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) projects.

As a result, he said, the government included the SDG projects in the annual development program for implementing those using own resources.

“We are not getting required assistance from the development partners. So, we are implementing projects of SDG agendas using our own resources,” MA Mannan said.

“It would be better for us if we would get external financial assistance. However, we do not want any more foreign grant. Our policy is now to be self-reliant,” he added.

He was briefing reporters at the Planning Division on the outcome of the Senior Level Meeting (SLM) of High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) of Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-Operation (GPEDC), a platform of the UN agenda on achieving 2030 SDG agendas.

The Planning Minister led an official delegation to the meeting held at New York in July 13-14.

He said he informed the HLPF meeting that Bangladesh was not getting funds from the Global Climate Forum (GCF).

“I told the meeting that our government had formulated a ‘Trust Fund’ with its own resources to address climate change challenges of the country. I have also placed a request to simplify the procedure for disbursing GCF funds,” he added.

He said he presented Bangladesh’s current state of economy and touched on the challenges the country was facing.

He said Rohingya issue was also discussed at the meeting.

“The meeting wanted to know the current state of Rohingya refugees. I told the meeting that my government wanted their safe repatriation,” he added.
