21 large taxpayers pay TK 293cr at income tax fair

Some 21 large taxpayer entities paid Taka 293
crore as tax in the last day of the seven-day long income tax fair.

Officials of the business entities handed over the pay-orders of the taxes
to National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan.

Among the large taxpayers, IFIC Bank paid Taka 50 crore, City Bank Taka 20
crore, Prime Bank Taka 10 crore, Jamuna Bank Taka 10 crore, Dhaka Bank Taka
15 crore, Standard Bank Taka 10 crore, Pubali Bank Taka 10 crore, Uttara Bank
Taka 10 crore, Brac Bank Taka 10 crore, Bank Asia Taka 10 crore, Square
Pharmaceuticals Taka 20 crore, Sadharan Bima Corporation Taka 10 crore,
Mutual Bank Taka 10 crore and BEXIMCO Limited Taka 2 crore.

Speaking on the occasion, Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said the large
taxpayers used to pay a big amount of money as tax and as part of it they
paid a portion today as token in the fair.

He said the taxpayers would get easy and hassle free services in tax
offices like the one they have received at the fair. “We must ensure a
friendly atmosphere in tax offices as we have offered in the fair, he added.”

Citing that the present tax-GDP ratio is 10 to 11 percent, the NBR Chairman
said: “We want to expand it to 15 percent in 2025 and 20 percent in 2030, and
everyone’s cooperation is needed for it.”

Although the income tax fair ended today but income tax return would be
received at every tax circle till November 30, he added.
