Eligible electronic taxpayer identification number (e-TIN) holders would be forced to submit their income tax return after January 15.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan came up with the statement at a press conference organised to mark the VAT Day and VAT Week at NBR headquarters on Sunday.
“We would communicate with the eligible e-TIN holders, who yet to submit income tax return, after January 15 and they would be forced to submit their return,” he said.
According to BSS, the country has 4.6 million e-TIN holders, among them only 2.2 million submitted income tax return.
The NBR chairman said income tax return submission has been increased by 200,000 this year from the 2.0 million of previous year.
In addition another 50,000 companies have collected approval of return submission and end of the day a total of 250,000 returns would be submitted this year, he added.
