CHATTOGRAM: Chittagong port, the prime sea port of Bangladesh and Kolkata Port Trust (KPT) are being ready for transshipment between the two neighbouring countries. The trial transshipment will start from the current week.
A ship named MV Senjuti already left the Chittagong sea port for Kolkata Shyama Proshad Mukharje port which will return with transshipment containers in the current week. The trial transshipment will start on return of MV Senjuti loaded with transshipment containers to Chittagong port, concerned sources said.
The trial transportation of goods started by road from Bangladesh to North-Eastern states of India earlier.
Habibur Rahman, Manager of Mango Shipping Line, the local agent of MV Senjuti, said, “The ship reached Chittagong port on Friday with 155 TEUs of containers and left Chittagong on Saturday for Kolkata Shyama Proshad Mukharje port. We hope that the ship will reach Kolkata on July 13 and will return to Chittagong port with 4 containers of transshipment along with other containers. The transshipment containers will be transported through Akhaura by road to India again.”
