Cashless society in country imminent: Jabbar

Mustafa Jabbar today said cashless society in Bangladesh is imminent
due to the outcome of government’s digital activities.

“Internet dependency has transformed our life in every sphere of
society . . . and the COVID-19 situation has made the digital
financial service inevitable,” he said.

The minister was addressing a webinar titled “Digital Bangladesh
2021: Payment System and Fintech” as chief guest, said a ministry
press release.

Mentioning that Bangladesh becomes an instance in digital financial
service globally, he said country’s people have trusted and received
the digital financial service which is an outcome of “digital
Bangladesh” campaign of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Underlying the use of Bangla in communicating with people through
SMS and other ways, Jabbar said it would help establish meaningful
communication between customers and financial service providers.

BGMEA President Dr Rubana Huq, VISA Country Manager Ram Chandra,
Mastercard Bangladesh Representative Kamal Saeed, Dutch-Bangla Bank
Managing Director Abul Kashem Md Shirin, Bank Asia Managing Director
Syed Mahbubur Rahman, bKash CEO Kamal Quadir and Nagad Managing
Director Tanvir Mishuk, among others, also spoke on the occasion.

They discussed on the issues of potentialities and problems in
establishing cashless society through digital financial services.
