NCC Bank MD given seven days to explain

The bank’s board of directors asked for a written explanation of the source of his deposits

National Credit and Commerce (NCC) Bank Limited board of directors has given the bank’s Managing Director Mosleh Uddin Ahmed seven days to explain the presence of Tk35cr in his bank accounts.

On Wednesday, the bank called a special board meeting to discuss the findings of a Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) investigation that found Tk35cr fishy deposits in Mosleh Uddin Ahmed’s accounts.

The bank’s board of directors asked for a written explanation of the source of his deposits, which must be submitted within the next seven days, said a public relations official of the bank.

The BFIU has detected a significant sum of cash, Tk35crore, in the bank accounts of the managing director.

Special investigation by the BFIU unearthed the suspicious bank balance the transactions of which were made in the names of the MD and his wife in several banks, financial institutions and brokerage houses.

BFIU has seized Mosleh Uddin Ahmed’s accounts with five banks including NCC, Jamuna Bank, Prime Bank, City Bank and Premier Bank as well as with Reliance Finance and International Leasing.

In the investigation report, the BFIU said the MD had abused power, resorted to corruption and evaded taxes.

Letters of BFIU have been sent to the NBR (National Board of Revenue) and the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) to carry out investigations into the sources of Mosleh Uddin Ahmed’s income and wealth.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Bank has started procedures towards his removal from the NCCBL.

NCC Bank Chairman Md Nurun Newaz and some directors were present at the board meeting.
