Stocks maintain downward trend

Stocks witnessed another bearish session today as all indices on Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges maintained downward trend for the second consecutive sessions due to lower activities of some large-cap securities despite higher transactions.

The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 14.47 points down at 5,318.62. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 5.22 points down at 1,216.24 and with 4.22 points down at 1,886.16.

The daily trade rose to 14.69 crore shares from Sunday’s 17.29 crore shares and the day’s trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 424.66 crore from Taka 415.34 crore of the previous session.

At DSE, out of the day’s 353 securities, prices of 116 securities closed higher against 198 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were Pragati Life, Runners Auto, SEMLFBSLGF, Dhaka Insurance and Prime Insurance. The major losing companies were ICBEPMF1S1, SEMLIBBLSF, ICB3RDNRB, EBL1STMF and AIBL1STMF.

National Life Insurance topped the turnover list followed by ATCSLGF, Runner Auto, Rupali Life and JMISMDL.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 42.48 points down at 16,290.53.

At CSE, 263 issues were traded. Of those, 75 closed higher and 156 closed lower when 62.28 lakh shares worth Taka 14.56 crore changed hands.
