48 to get CIP status from industrial sector Nov 20

The government will hand over commercially important person (industry) cards to 48 businesspeople on November 20 for their contribution to the country’s overall economy through setting up industries, creating employment and increasing national income in 2017.

Industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun will hand over the CIP cards among the awardees at a function to be held at Sonargaon Hotel in the capital on November 20, said industries secretary Md Abdul Halim at a press conference at the industries ministry in the city on Wednesday.

Prime minister’s private industry and investment affairs adviser Salman F Rahman, state minister for industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry president Sheikh Fazle Fahim will be present as special guests at the function.

Out of the 48 entrepreneurs, 42 will receive the CIP status for their outstanding performance in eight categories while six will get the status under the ex-officio category, said Halim.

Earlier, the industries ministry in September issued a gazette notification containing the names of the nominated businesspeople who will enjoy the CIP status for one year.

Halim said a total of 340 businesspersons had already received the CIP cards since 2009.

The CIP card holders enjoy a number of facilities, including priority in seat reservation at government transports in air, road, rail and waterways, getting invitation at national events and letter of introduction from foreign ministry for getting visa to go aboard, he added.

The CIPs nominated as ex-officio for 2017 are: Abdul Matlub Ahmad, the then president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Md Siddiqur Rahman, the then president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Rupali Haque Chowdhury, the then president of Foreign Investors Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Selima Ahmad, president of Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Salahuddin Kasem Khan, the then president of Employers Federation, and Mirza Nurul Gani Shovon, president of National Association of Small and Cottage Industries of Bangladesh.

CIPs from the large-scale industries (production) are: BSRM Steels chairman Ali Hossain Akbar Ali, D&S Pretty Fashions Ltd chairman Mohammad Ali Talukder, Zinnat Fashions Ltd managing director Mohammad Abdul Jabbar, JMI Syringe and Medical Devices Ltd director Md Abdur Razzak, Nannu Spinning Mills Ltd managing director BM Shoeb, Hams Garments Ltd managing director Md Shafiqur Rahman, BRB Cable Industries managing director Parvez Rahman, RAK Ceramics Bangladesh Ltd managing director SAK Ekramuzzaman, Bengal Poly and Paper Sack Ltd managing director Firoz Alam, Badsha Textiles Ltd managing director Md Badsha Mia, BBS Cables Ltd managing director Abu Noman Howlader, Bashundhara Paper Mills Ltd director Safwan Sobhan, Mir Ceramics Ltd director Mahreen Nasir, Square Food and Beverage Ltd managing director Anjan Chowdhury and Universal Jeans managing director Md Nasir Uddin.

CIPs from the large-scale industries (services) are: STS Holdings Ltd managing director Khondoker Monir Uddin, Navana Real Estate Ltd vice-chairman Sajedul Islam, The Civil Engineers Ltd managing director Md Atiqur Rahman, Mir Akhtar Hossain Ltd managing director Mir Nasir Hossain and Intraco Refuelling Station Ltd managing director Md Riad Ali.

CIPs from the medium-scale industries (services) are: Jaj Bhuiyan Textiles Mills Ltd chairman Mohammad Fayazur Rahman Bhuiyan, Prome Agro Food Ltd chairman Md Enamul Hassan Khan, Auko-Tex Ltd managing director Abdus Sobhan, Citadel Apparels Ltd managing director Mahidul Islam Khan, Madhobdi Dyeing Finishing Mills Ltd managing director Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan Liton, Far East Dresses Ltd managing director Ajmat Rahman, Fu-Wang Foods Ltd managing director Arif Ahmed Chowdhury, Kuliarchar Sea Foods (Cox’s Bazar) Ltd chairman Md Musa Meah and Bashumati Distribution Ltd managing director ZM Golam Nabi.

Navana Ltd chairman Shafiul Islam, Shanta Holdings Ltd director Jesmin Sultana and Spectra Engineers Ltd managing director Khan Md Aftabuddin are nominated for CIP card from medium industry (services) sector.

CIPs from small industry (production) category are: Annesha Style Ltd managing director UM Ashek, Sonali Fabrics and Textile Mills Ltd managing director Md Ali Hossain, Kiam Metal Industries Ltd managing director Md Misber Rahman, Amanat Shah Weaving Processing Ltd director Rezaul Karim and Hundred Plus Expo Ltd director Syed Harun Gani.

Fair Distribution Ltd managing director Md Ruhul Alam Al Mahbub will receive the award from small industry (service) category while Jamuna Meter Industries Ltd managing director Abul Kalam Bhuiyan and Technomedia Ltd managing director Joshoda Jibon Deb Nath will get the CIP card from micro industry category.

Haque Drycell Ltd managing director Adam Tamiji Haque and Smart Leather Products proprietor Masuda Yesmin Urmy are selected for the award from the cottage industry category.
