‘Businesses should be environment-friendly in Bangladesh’

Businesses should be environment-friendly in Bangladesh and they should ensure good governance to build a safer earth, analysts said today.

Their comments came at the closing ceremony of the World Investor Week- 2022 organised jointly by the Central Depository Bangladesh Ltd (CDBL) and Central Counterparty Bangladesh Ltd (CCBL) at Le Meridien Dhaka.

Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission is organising the main event of the Bangladesh chapter of the World Investor Week.

This year’s event targeted promoting environment-friendliness, sustainability and governance in the businesses.

Fifteen times more people died in 2020 compared to 2011 due to natural calamities, said Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed, a commissioner of the BSEC.

The entrepreneurs should focus on producing goods without hurting the environment, he suggested.

“Developed countries are the main player in carbon emissions. However, we are the victims of the situation.”

Some analysts in the World Investor Week suggested reducing production to cut carbon emissions.

Mohammed Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, managing director of LankaBangla Securities; Md Moniruzzaman, managing director and CEO of IDLC Investments; AKM Nurul Fazal Bulbul, vice chairman of the CDBL; Md Eunusur Rahman, chairman of the Dhaka Stock Exchange; Shuvra Kanti Chowdhury, managing director and CEO of the CDBL, and Farhad Ahmed, managing director and CEO of the CCBL, also spoke at the event.
